Hazara Express Derails Near Nawabshah, 30 Killed, Dozens Injured

In a tragic incident, multiple bogies of the Hazara Express derailed near the Sarhari Railway Station near Nawabshah, leaving at least 30 people dead and several others injured. The Sindh Chief Minister confirmed the death toll and directed expedited relief and rescue efforts. Around 1,000 passengers were on board the train during the accident. Rescue teams and volunteers worked tirelessly to assist the injured and transport them to hospitals. This accident highlights the recurring safety concerns of Pakistan's railway system, which carries over 80 million passengers annually.

The scene at the accident site was chaotic, with cars, tractors, rickshaws, and motorcycles parked alongside the tracks as volunteers waded through a canal to help the injured. Some passenger compartments lay on their side, mangled steel twisted and buckled. Ambulances and private cars rushed the injured to hospitals, where medical staff worked tirelessly to treat the victims. The district administration, Pakistan Army, and Pakistan Railways staff joined forces for relief activities and track clearance.

The Railways and Aviation Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique expressed concern over the accident and put authorities on alert. He stated that initial investigation pointed to a possible mechanical fault or sabotage. The federal government inspector of railways will lead a thorough assessment to determine the root cause of the derailment. The minister requested the provincial government to prepare a list of the deceased, and efforts were underway to clear the tracks and restore train traffic.

This tragedy is not the first to hit Pakistan's railway system. In June 2021, a collision between two trains near Daharki in Sindh resulted in the death of at least 65 people and injuries to about 150 others. Derailments and accidents are common on the country's aging railway system, raising concerns about safety and the need for modernization.

The Sindh Chief Minister expressed grief over the lives lost and directed immediate medical assistance to the injured. The Pakistan Army and Rangers promptly launched relief activities at the site, providing medical aid and food items. Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari ordered an investigation into the incident. Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah conveyed condolences to the affected families and emphasized the need for proper healthcare for the injured.

As the situation evolves, authorities and media are working to provide timely and accurate updates from credible sources to address any inaccuracies in initial reports. The focus remains on rescue operations and ensuring the well-being of those affected by this devastating accident.

This is an evolving story and would be updated as further information becomes available.
